Supervisor for District 5 of the Placer County Board, Cindy Gustafson is a 40-year resident of Placer County in Tahoe City. She was appointed to a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors for the 5th District in April 2019 and won election to the seat in March of 2020. In addition to her role on the Board of Supervisors, Ms. Gustafson currently serves as Chair of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board, Chair of Placer County Local Agency Formation Commission, and on the boards of the California Tahoe Conservancy, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, and Tahoe Transportation District. Prior to her service on the Board of Supervisors she held a long career in local government and has professional experience in the private sector. Ms. Gustafson joined the Tahoe City Public Utility District in 1991 where she worked for 26 years, including serving her final eight years as the General Manager, overseeing the full operations of the District. In 2017, she retired from local government and was hired as the Chief Executive Officer of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and North Tahoe Chamber, a position she held until her appointment as District 5 Supervisor. Ms. Gustafson has also served on a number of State and local boards and commissions including: California Fish and Game Commission, California’s Marine Life Protection Act Blue Ribbon Task Force, Placer County Transportation Planning Agency, Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Board of Trustees, the Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee, the Tahoe Fund, and the Tahoe Truckee Education Foundation. She and her husband raised their three sons in Placer County and continue to enjoy many outdoor activities in the foothills and mountains of the Sierra.
